Beaches within driving distance of Lymington

Owning a car isn’t always down to commuting to and from the workplace or doing the school run – quite often we use our cars to enjoy days out and explore new areas.

With this in mind, we have written a guide to beaches within driving distance of our Hyundai dealership here in Lymington, so you can enjoy a fun-filled day out with your new car.

Milford on Sea

Milford on Sea beach offers stunning views out to the Isle of Wight and is located close to the bustling town where you will find a wide range of shops, cafes, and restaurants.

You can park directly on the promenade at Hurst Road East car park, where there are ample spaces available. If these car parks are full, there are several others close by, including Hurst Road West car park and The Lighthouse car park.

Between the car park and the beach, you have a long promenade that you can take a stroll down and enjoy the spectacular views out to sea.

Milford on Sea beach is popular with water sports enthusiasts who are often seen enjoying activities such as paddleboarding and kayaking.

Address: 18 Hurst Rd, Milford on Sea, Lymington, SO41 0PY

Distance from Lymington: 4.7 miles

Barton on Sea Beach

Barton on Sea beach is surrounded by a rugged coastline so perfect if you enjoy walking and want to explore the area better.

The access down to the beach from the main road is on a slight slope, but wheelchairs should cope just fine as the paths are paved. Once you’ve reached the beach huts, the pathways are a bit rougher but still flat so walking alone is manageable.

From here, there are various points where you can access the beach itself, which, for the most part, is rocky rather than sandy.

There are several car parks located close to the beach access path, with Marine Drive East car park being the closest. There are also no parking restrictions on the side of Marine Drive East, so you shouldn’t struggle to find a space.

Address: Marine Drive East, Barton on Sea, New Milton BH25 7DT

Distance from Lymington: 7.5 miles

Highcliffe Beach

Slightly further up the coast from Barton on Sea, you will find Highcliffe Beach, a rugged yet rocky beach on the East and a sandy beach on the West.

There’s a nature reserve just a short walk from the beach and a gentle walk down to the beach from the local car parks.

Highcliffe Beach is perfect for those who want a quieter option, perhaps for a picnic or a short dog walk.

The beach itself is a good size, so you won’t feel too crammed in if you decide to pitch up for the day.

Address: 43 Rothesay Drive, Highcliffe, Christchurch, BH23 4LD

Distance from Lymington: 9.5 miles

Avon Beach

If you’re looking for a beach to visit that has plenty going on, Avon Beach is spacious with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views, including on the wooden picnic benches or the local beach café.

There are plenty of parking options so you can get close to the beach, making taking your equipment down much easier.

There is a pay and display car park that is level with the beach so offers convenient wheelchair and pushchair access.

The sea is often packed with swimmers and paddlers in the Summer months as the beach is patrolled by a lifeguard between July and early September.

For those who don’t want to stay sitting on the beach, there’s a long promenade that is completely paved, so suitable for all abilities as well as those with pushchairs.

There are also public toilets located just off the beach next to the Noisy Lobster Deli.

Address: Avon Run Road, Christchurch, BH23 4AN

Distance from Lymington: 10.6 miles

Calshot Beach

Calshot Beach is a rocky beach that is perfect for those wanting to stay away from the crowds and enjoy a stroll.

There’s plenty of parking directly next to the beach so access is convenient and easy. There are also public toilets and a café next to the pay and display car park.

As Calshot Beach isn’t a bustling seaside area, it’s popular with paddleboarders and kayakers.

Address: Jack Maynard Road, Calshot, Southampton, SO45 1BR

Distance from Lymington: 14 miles

Southbourne Beach

Southbourne Beach is a long sandy beach with easy access for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs as there’s a ramp leading down from the main road.

There’s plenty of space to pitch your deckchair and have a picnic whilst the kids paddle in the sea. Lifeguards do patrol Southbourne Beach, but only between the end of May and early September.

Southbourne Beach has been awarded a Blue Flag, so you can be sure that it is clean and safe.

If you don’t fancy walking along the beach, you can take a stroll down the promenade to take in the views instead.

Address: Southbourne Coast Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth, BH6 4EN

Distance from Lymington: 14.5 miles

Boscombe Beach

Slightly further along the coast from Southbourne Beach is Boscombe Beach, a bustling sandy beach that has a pier as the central focal point.

There’s level access from the main road making it easy for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs to access the beach and promenade.

Boscombe Beach is within walking distance of Bournemouth, so you can head into the town for a meal after your visit to the beach.

Boscombe Beach is patrolled by lifeguards between the end of May and early September.

Address: Undercliff Drive, Boscombe, Bournemouth, BH5 1BL

Distance from Lymington: 16 miles

Colwell Bay, Isle of Wight

If you fancy hopping on the ferry over to the Isle of Wight, you can experience the stunning Colwell Bay which provides stunning views back over to the mainland.

Colwell Bay is just a short drive from Yarmouth where you will depart the ferry from Lymington.

There’s a pay and display car park close to the beach which has sloping access down to the sea, which is perfect for kayakers.

You can grab your refreshments from the beach café close to the beach and use the public conveniences within the car park itself.

Totland Bay, Isle of Wight

If you’re spending some time exploring the Isle of Wight, Totland Bay, much like Colwell Bay, is also located on the West Coast of the island.

There’s a pier that stands central to Totland Bay so you can take a stroll onto the pier for some fantastic views back to the island.

You will find public conveniences close to the beach and there’s also a restaurant on the beachfront for those looking to make the most of their trip to Totland Bay.
